Over 18 Lakh Cases Pending In Odisha Courts, Says Minister In Assembly
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Law Minister Jagannath Saraka on Saturday said more than 18 lakh cases are pending for trial in various courts across the state.
The minister said this in his reply to a question of Khandapada MLA of BJD Soumya Ranjan Patnaik in the Assembly.
Giving details, the minister said total 18,79,226 cases are pending in various lower courts including Orissa High Court. Of the pending cases, 1,28,019 are more than 15 years old, he added.
Saraka further said the government is taking steps to run Civil Judge-cum-JMFC Court in all blocks for immediate disposal of the cases with approval from the High Court. Besides, efforts are on to increase the number of judges, he added.
