London: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is hopeful of the country returning to normal as all adults are expected to be vaccinated by end of July.
Johnson is expected to announce reopening of schools from March 8, in first big step towards normalcy.
The Prime Minister, who has been accused of acting too late, says he will lay out a “cautious but irreversible” plan to ensure there are no more lockdowns.
“Today I’ll be setting out a roadmap to bring us out of lockdown cautiously,” he said in a Downing Street release.
“Our priority has always been getting children back to school which we know is crucial for their education as well as their mental and physical well-being… we will also be prioritizing ways for people to reunite with loved ones safely.”
The UK has seen more than 1.2 lakh deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making it one of the hardest-hit nations.
The UK was also the first country to roll out mass vaccination, in December. More than 17 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine till date, which represents one-third of the population.
By mid-April, the government is looking at vaccinating everyone over 50, and by July-end, all adults.
Coronavirus case numbers have been falling and vaccinations seem to be reducing severe illness.
