Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra on Friday took to his Twitter handle to extend his support to the protesting farmers.
The actor wrote that he was pained to see the suffering of the farmers and urged the government to resolve the matter soon.
“I am extremely in pain to see the suffering of my farmer brothers. The government should do something fast,” tweeted Dharmendra.
Dharmendra had earlier posted a similar tweet, expressing his concern for the farmers. However, when online haters started trolling him, he had deleted the post.
A BJP MP from 2004 to 2009, Dharmendra is known for his love for farming. He keeps sharing pictures from his farmhouse on social media.
Dharmendra’s son Sunny Deol is a BJP leader from Gurdaspur in Punjab.
Earlier, Sunny too had courted controversy for his diplomatic statement about the farmers’ protest.
“I stand with my party and farmers and will always be with farmers. Our government is always thinking of farmers,” Sunny had tweeted.
Dharmendra’s wife Hema Malini, who is also a BJP member from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, has been silent on the issue.
