Cuttack: Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan, on his first official trip to Odisha, took part in Parakram Diwas event at Netaji Janakinath Bhawan in Cuttack’s Odia Bazaar, the birthplace of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, to mark the freedom fighter’s birth anniversary, on Friday.
Netaji was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack. This year marks his 129th birth anniversary.
The V-P hoisted the national flag at the museum and offered floral tributes at Netaji’s statue. He then inaugurated the Philatelic Gallery, featuring INA postal stamps, and visited other galleries of the museum. Radhakrishnan also inaugurated an exhibition on the freedom fighter organised by the Ministry of Culture at the interpretation centre of the Netaji Memorial.
Additionally, he inaugurated the newly-constructed District Culture Bhawan near the museum complex, enhancing the city’s cultural infrastructure.
The Vice President was accompanied by Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and other dignitaries. Tight security arrangements were in place across Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for the visit.
The Netaji Janakinath Bhawan remained closed to the public from 8 am to 2 pm to facilitate the event.
According to the official itinerary, Radhakrishnan will leave for Kolkata at 2.15 pm from the Bhubaneswar airport to attend other Parakram Diwas celebrations in Netaji’s honour.
Earlier in the day, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had received the V-P at the airport in the state capital, where he was also accord a guard of honour. He then left for Cuttack by road.
