New Delhi: The revised Class X and XII board exam time-table released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday has drawn the ire of parents from across the country.

According to an Indian Express report, the discontent parents association has termed the time-table as ‘dangerous’ and has opposed the move to conduct the pending examinations in the month of July when the COVID-19 cases could be at its peak.

India Wide Parents Association president Anubha Sahai said, “Are they going to take responsibility of kids during such emergency when cases are rising? We condemn this move, the government and the CBSE will be held accountable if any child is infected. They are risking the lives of lakhs of students from across India.”

As the pending exams are being conducted only for optional subjects, parents suggest that the exams can be conducted either online or students can be promoted based on other parameters like it was done for students of classes I to VIII.

“We don’t understand what is the urgency to hold these exams. Students anyway are required to sit for various entrance exams after Class XII depending on what they wish to study. Why can’t they then be promoted. Who will bear the risk?” questioned parent Sunil Chaudhuri, a member of the New Bombay Parents Association.

Meanwhile, Rajhans Vidyalaya principal Deepshikha Shrivastava told The Indian Express, “Major papers for Class XII such as English and Math are over. The exams are being conducted for optional subjects, which have limited takers. Hence, there won’t be a problem of crowding or for social distancing. However, in case the situation worsens, a decision can be made once again in July.”

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday announced that the remaining board exams for Classes X and XII will be held between July 1 and 15.

Issuing health guidelines for the examinees, the Board stated that they will have to carry their own sanitizer bottles and wear face masks during the exams.
