Cuttack: A patient died after the ambulance taking him to a hospital in Bhubaneswar allegedly ran out of fuel on Kathajodi river bridge near Cuttack on Thursday.
According to sources, Prakash Kumar Tanda had allegedly consumed poison in Kendrapada district. His family members had admitted him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
However, he was subsequently being shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, when the ambulance halted on the bridge over Kathajodi river.
His family members have alleged that the ambulance stopped after running out of fuel. Not just that, the oxygen cylinder attached to the patient got exhausted and the youth died shortly after, they said.
The incident triggered outrage among locals and family members of the deceased alleged that their son’s death occurred due to negligence of emergency medical transport, even as the state grapples with ongoing fuel shortage.
