Plan Drawn Up To Extend Area Of Bali Jatra In Cuttack This Year

Cuttack: The local administration has planned to organise Bali Jatra 2022 in Odisha’s Cuttack city in a grand manner as it would be held after a break of two years.

According to sources, Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) in coordination with other departments have drawn up a road map for this year’s Bali Jatra. The famous fair will be held on the banks of the Mahanadi in the Millennium City from November 8 to 14.

Expecting that the footfall will be more as the Jatra is organised after being stopped for two years for COVID pandemic, the CDA and CMC plan to extend the area to 100 acre this time. They have prepared a blue print of the entire arrangement.

The fair will have some additional attractions for entertainment of the visitors besides the usual stalls selling all types of household and other items. Considering the heavy rush that leads of traffic congestion during the Jatra in its surrounding areas, an area of around 40 acre will be kept aside exclusively for parking of vehicles, the sources said.

Besides Baishnav Pani field on the banks of the Mahanadi, another area will be earmarked for the fair. The cultural shows representing different areas of the state will be organised during 7 days of the Jatra.

The district administration has decided to request the state government to increase the fund of Rs 20 lakh sanctioned through Culture department to Rs 50 lakh, the sources said.

In June, the district administration had announced to allow Bali Jatra this year considering a decline in the number of daily COVID cases.
