Plasma Therapy In Odisha: Four Of 6 COVID-19 Patients Show Signs Of Recovery

Bhubaneswar: Cured NDRF jawans were seen donating plasma for treatment of COVID-19 patients at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, where a Plasma Bank has been opened, on Sunday.

Convalescent plasma therapy has begun in three hospitals –  SUM Hospital and KIIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar and Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack – in Odisha.

According to official sources, four of the six critical COVID-19 patients, who underwent plasma therapy, are responding well to the treatment. They are no longer on oxygen support, and will soon be discharged.

The other two patients are stable and are expected to be out of danger zone soon, the sources added.

A total of 8 units of plasma have been collected from four donors so far and six have been used. Four patients of dedicated SUM COVID Hospital and two at Ashwini hospital have undergone the procedure.

It may be recalled that Odisha is among the few states to have started this service.

On July 15, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated this facility at SCB, which acts as the nodal agency.

After the appeal of Chief Minister to cured COVID-19 patients for plasma donation, more and more people are coming forward to join the mission, the sources further said.
