Police Officer’s Wife Duped Of Over Rs 1 Lakh By Cyber Fraud In Puri

Puri: In another cyber fraud case in Odisha, the wife of a police officer of Puri town was duped of more than Rs 1 lakh on Wednesday.

According to sources, the woman, Priyanka Kanungo of Penthakata under Puri Sadar police limits, received a call from an unknown number on the day. The caller introduced himself as an employee of the bank where she has an account.

Priyanka was told over phone that her bank account was not linked with the Aadhaar card. He also gave a four-digit code to Priyanka and told her to send it back to him. Soon after she sent the number, Rs 1,o1,474 was debited from  her account.

After receiving 9 text messages on her mobile phone about withdrawal of the amount, Priyanka went to the ATM kiosk of the bank and brought out mini statement of her account. On confirming that the amount had been debited from her account, she filed a complaint with cyber police.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the fraud, said additional SP of Puri Mihir Panda.

It may be note that a woman in Bhubaneswar was duped of Rs 20,000 while shopping online 4 days back and a woman officer of state government in Odisha capital lost more than Rs one lakh to cyber frauds last month.
