Power Tariff Hike Likely In Odisha!

Bhubaneswar: Odisha might see an increase in power tariff from next financial year.

During a hearing of the petitions filed by different power distribution companies, the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) on Monday proposed the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) for a hike in electricity tariff from 88 paise per unit to 95 paise per unit.

The OHPC suggested the seven-paisa hike citing an increase in power generation costs.

The hearing on the petitions of the discoms for power tariff increase will continue till February 14.

According to sources, the OERC will take a policy decision on the tariff in the third week of March after the State Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for February 26.

The OERC had kept the tariffs unchanged for 2019-20. Since the previous fiscal, consumers have been paying Rs 2.50 per unit for the first 50 units, Rs 4.30 per unit above 50 units and up to 200 units, Rs 5.30 per unit above 200 and up to 400 units. The tariff was fixed at Rs 5.70 per unit above 400 units per month.

Similarly, commercial consumers and industrial establishments have been paying Rs 4.50 and Rs 6 per unit towards power tariff, respectively.
