New Delhi: A powerful earthquake struck Turkey on Thursday evening.
The quake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, struck Konya province in central Turkey’s Central Anatolia region.
The impact of the tremor was felt across capital city Ankara, according to Iran’s state-backed Mehr news agency.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties.
On Wednesday, a 6.1-strong earthquake struck neighbouring Greece. Tremors were felt as far away as Cairo, Egypt, as well as in Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan.
Last month, a 5.2 magnitude quake shook Istanbul and other parts of Turkey, resulting in injuries and some damage to properties.
In February 2023, Turkey and Syria were devastated by powerful earthquakes of 7.8 magnitude, followed by a second one measuring 7.5. These were accompanied by several strong aftershocks. Nearly 59,000 people died in Turkey and 8,000 in Syria in what were the deadliest quakes in the region in many years.
