Berhampur: Six days after the recovery of the body of Bishnu Prasad Gouda, an agent of the HDFC Bank, from a secluded place in Badagumula area near Ambapua on the outskirts of Berhampur, police arrested the prime accused Dr Hrushikesh Tripathy from Bhubaneswar on Sunday night.
After bringing the accused from to Berhampur, the police on Monday took him to the Gayatri Clinic and later to the place where the body of the bank agent was buried.
According to police, the deceased, a native of Chikilika village under Khallikote police limits in Ganjam district, was in love with a nurse who works at the Gayatri Clinic of Dr Hrushikesh Tripathy. The doctor was also in love with the nurse.
On August 18, Bishnu had gone to the house of the nurse. But as he did not return to the village, his wife Narmada later lodged a complaint with Baidyanathpur Police. Acting on the complaint, police had begun an investigation.
While the investigation was underway, an anonymous caller on September 9 informed Narmada and her brother on their mobile phone confirming the murder of Bishnu and requested them to come to the Gayatri Clinic and inquire about the matter. The caller also gave them the name of one Behera and said he is one of the accused who knows the details.
After receiving the call, Narmada informed the police who went to the clinic and interrogated Gangadhar Behera, who works as an assistant in the clinic of Dr Tripathy. During interrogation, Behera revealed the incident in detail.
The police had said that according to the postmortem report, the prime accused, before killing the bank agent had given him a high dose of sedative injection. After he became unconscious, he drained out the blood from his thigh area to ensure that there would not be any trace of blood. Later he cut the body into three pieces and dumped it inside a sack and buried it on the outskirts of Berhampur on the night of August 18.
