Bhubaneswar: For growth of industries and to generate more employment, the Odisha government on Tuesday accorded in-principle approval for setting up a commercial airport at Dhamra in Bhadrak district.

This was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

Principal Secretary to Commerce and Transport Department G Srinivas presented a topic of discussion on development of Dhamra Port and its  periphery.

Reviewing the development, Padhi directed the port authorities to set up a high-level community health centre at Dhamra.

The meeting also decided to develop port-based industries with the Chief Secretary directing Bhadrak collector to identify land for this purpose.

He also asked the Works Department to finalise the tender process for widening of Jamujhadi-Dhamara road and finish the work within 15 days.

Plans are also afoot to set up a police station and a community hospital in the area.

Padhi directed the departments concerned to take necessary action to provide both administrative and technical helps.

With the help of the port authorities, a CBSE-affiliated school was recently set up at Dhamra.
