Raipur: A low-flying private aircraft is suspected to have crashed in a forested area of Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district after hitting a tree on Monday, officials said.
While a rescue team has rushed towards the spot, details about the aircraft or its occupants are still not known.
People reported the aircraft flying at a height of about 30 feet from the ground. It then hit a tree and crashed near the Ratanpahli forest, close to Khurasagarha village in the Narayanpur police station area.
A blaze and plume of smoke could be spotted from a distance.
From images of the aircraft captured before the crash, it seemed to be a single-engine turbo-prop. It was flying just above the treetop level moments before the crash.
While there are no reports as yet from the crash site, authorities have said that casualties are possible.
There have been two major private aircraft crashes in the country over the last few months. The first one involved a Learjet that crashed in Maharashtra, killing the state’s deputy chief minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
The second crash involved an air ambulance carrying a patient from Ranchi in Jharkhand to New Delhi. The aircraft crashed in a forested area of Jharkhand, killing all occupants.
