Mumbai: Actor Priyanka Chopra, who is currently busy promoting her upcoming film ‘The Bluff’, recently opened up about confidence, self-belief and the fine line between motivating oneself and misleading others.
Speaking to India Today, Priyanka shared that “bluffing” yourself to feel more confident is a natural trait of humans and something she has relied on throughout her career.
“If you’re bluffing yourself to gain confidence, that is absolutely normal. It’s human behaviour. We all do it. When you talk yourself into something and give yourself that extra boost — I’ve needed that my whole career,” the actress said.
The actor revealed that she often gives herself empowering pep talks before stepping into challenging situations.
“I would tell myself, ‘You own this room, Queen.’ I don’t, but I tell myself that so I walk that way and feel that way. All of us get nervous in new environments,” she continued.
However, Priyanka was quick to add that self-motivation should not cross into deception.
“It’s okay to bluff yourself as long as you’re not bluffing other people. You shouldn’t make gains by portraying a wrong version of yourself. People need to relax on the PR,” she said, cautioning against projecting a false image for personal gain.
Emphasising on embracing flaws and learning from mistakes, the actress said, “Everybody has their own version of showing their best self. It’s okay to have flaws and make mistakes. I am a sum of all the mistakes I have made, and I’m proud of my younger self for getting me where I am today. Don’t build your life on bluffing other people.”
Directed by Frank E Flowers and co-written with Joe Ballarini, high-octane action thriller ‘The Bluff’ is set against the backdrop of the Cayman Islands.
Priyanka plays Ercell ‘Bloody Mary’ Bodden, a former pirate whose peaceful life is disrupted when her violent past resurfaces.
The film, which also features Karl Urban, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Safia Oakley-Green, Vedanten Naidoo, and Temuera Morrison in key roles, will premiere on Prime Video on February 25.
The actress is also making her comeback to Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’, along with Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
