Puri: The inaugural run of the upgraded Puri-Bangiriposi-Puri SF Express with LHB Coaches was flagged off from Bangiriposi railway station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj on Monday.
Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi, Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Mohanta, Bangriposi MLA Sanjali Murmu from and Saraskana MLA Bhadav Hansdah were present on the occasion.
Regular services of the Super Fast Express with LHB coaches will begin from Puri from Tuesday and from Bangiriposi from Wednesday. The train previously operated with conventional ICF coaches.
The LHB coaches, built in India with German technology, are lightweight, jerk-free and offer a comfortable ride to passengers. They are also far safer than conventional coaches. Their anti-telescopic quality ensures that they do not get crushed or flip over during collisions.
“These coaches have vertical Z-Stiffeners to absorb accidental loads. These coaches were originally imported from Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) of Germany. Later, their production started in India under licence. Now, all coaches manufactured in India are LHB. Indian Railways has a plan to replace all conventional coaches with LHB ones,” a senior railway official said.
The upgraded train has an AC Chair Car, six Second Class Seating (Reserved) coaches, five General Second Class Seating coaches, a Guard cum Motor Car and a Guard cum Second Class Seating for Divyangjan passengers.
