Jaipur: The police raided a farm in Nagaur, Rajasthan, and seized nearly 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate ahead of Republic Day. Other material used to make explosives were also seized, the police said.

One person was arrested in this connection on charges of illegal storage and trafficking of explosives, as reported by TOI.

“This was a very large consignment of explosives being stored in one place. It could have led to devastating consequences,” a police officer has been quoted as saying.

It has been reported that the massive haul of restricted explosives was found concealed in a house built on agricultural land in Sarhad Harsaur village in the district’s Thanwala police station area.

The raid was conducted by a joint team of the District Special Team (DST) and Thanwala police. Detonators, fuse wires and other components were also seized.

The accused has been identified as Suleman Khan (58). Nagaur superintendent of police Mridul Kachhawa said Khan had three previous criminal cases registered against him.

“A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Explosives Act and BNS. We are interrogating him to trace the source of explosives, their intended use and possible links to a wider supply network,” an officer involved in the investigation said.

Though the police have not ruled out the possibility of the explosives being intended for use in illegal mining activities, its use to make IEDs and other explosive devices has also not been ruled out.
