Bhubaneswar: The yellow warning of light to moderate rain continues for several districts of Odisha, including the Cuttack city, till 7 pm on Thursday.
The districts that are likely to be affected are Sonepur, Nuapada, Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri and Cuttack, including Cuttack city, according to the India Meteorological Department.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The weather condition in Odisha, which was battered by heavy rain for past couple of day leading to a flood-like situation in the state, is likely to improved from Friday with the Depression over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood gradually weakening. The weather agency has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places in Interior Odisha and at a few places in coastal districts of the state till 8.30 am on Friday. Light to moderate rain may continue at a few places across the state thereafter till August 7.
Under the influence of the above system and due to a strong pressure gradient, strong surface wind speed reaching 20 to 25 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast and adjoining North Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha Coast and adjoining North Bay of Bengal during this period.
