Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IM)D has issued a nowcast warning for 12 districts of Odisha, including Kataka city, till 7 pm on Thursday.
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in the districts of Kataka (including Kataka city), Kendujhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Nabarangpur, Baragada, Nuapada and Dhenkanal during the next 3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
Odisha has been experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall for the past two days under the influence of a low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coasts, which has become well-marked over the same region.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall may continue in the districts of Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Boudh, and Sonepur till 8.30 am on July 17. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Kataka, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagada, Dhenkanal, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati. Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Baleshawar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam, Malkangiri, and Nuapada.
The weather agency has warned of localised urban flooding, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions, alongside risks of minor structural and road damage, landslides, crop inundation, and potential riverine flooding in these districts.
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough along and off Odisha coast from July 16-18. Local cautionary signal No-III (LC-3) has been hoisted at all ports of Odisha.
