Cuttack: A rape survivor was allegedly duped of over Rs one lakh by woman posing as an employee of the Cuttack District Collector’s office.
The victim, who was a minor at the time of a gang rape in 2020, had been granted financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the District Legal Services Authority as per a court order. After she received Rs 3.75 lakh in the first phase, the victim was approached by the accused, who demanded a commission of Rs one lakh, claiming it was necessary for releasing the rest amount.
Believing their claims, the victim deposited the amount in three instalments in the accused’s bank accounts. However, she later realised that she had been cheated. The victim then lodged a complaint at Lalbag police station in the city.
As per the complaint, the accused had given her two PhonePe numbers, into which the victim transferred Rs one lakh. The accused always communicated over WhatsApp.
Based on her complaint, the police have launched an investigation and efforts are on to identify and apprehend the accused.
