New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized 300 kg RDX – a powerful explosive – an AK-47 rifle and a large quantity of ammunition from Faridabad in the National Capital Region (NCR). Faridabad is about 55 km from Delhi.
The seizure came after Aadil Ahmad Rather, a doctor, was interrogated. Earlier, another AK-47 rifle was seized by the police from Rather’s personal locker at the government medical college and hospital in Anantnag. He has worked there as a senior resident till October 24, 2024, before moving to a private hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Rather was wanted on charges of putting up posters in support of the banned, Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar. He was arrested from Saharanpur on Thursday.
During a sweep of the medical college and hospital in Anantnag, the assault rifle was seized. Rather was then shifted to Srinagar from Saharanpur. According to sources, it was during interrogation at Srinagar that the doctor revealed the location of the RDX and the other weapon.
His role in the transportation and storage of explosives and weapons at locations outside Jammu and Kashmir is being investigated. Intelligence agencies are also trying to find out whether these items were meant for terror strikes in Jammu and Kashmir or other states in the country.
Officials have also revealed the involvement of another doctor, identified as Muzamil Shakeel. He is a resident of Koil in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Shakeel is suspected to have helped stock the seized explosives and arms in Faridabad.
Officials have claimed that this is one of the biggest seizures of explosives linked to the Valley in recent years. Further recoveries and arrests are likely as teams trace the network responsible for smuggling and storing the arms and explosives outside the Union Territory.
