Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray issued a stern warning for those trying to do ‘dadagiri’.
The Maharashtra chief minister, speaking for the first time on the Hanuman Chalisa controversy, said reciting it is not a problem, but there is a proper way.
“If you want to recite Hanuman Chalisa, do it by coming home. But there is a way. Don’t do dadagiri. If you do that, Balasaheb has taught us how to deal with dadagiri,” the CM said on Monday.
The MP-MLA couple of Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana had announced that they planned to chant the Hanuman Chalisa outside Uddhav’s residence Matoshree on Saturday.
Shiv Sena workers gathered at different locations in Mumbai, including Matoshree, from Friday and dared the Ranas to come near the CM’s residence.
The couple called off their programme on Saturday but were arrested by Khar Police later a few hours later. They have been charged with sedition and remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody.
