Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a red warning for two districts of Odisha.
The well-marked low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
There is an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall & thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Balasore. Heavy rainfall & thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Bhadrak.
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts till 8.30 am on Thursday.
The intensity of rain is likely to slightly decrease thereafter with the system slowly moving northwestwards across Jharkhand during the next 24 hours. However, heavy rainfall may continue in the state till June 24.
The weather agency has also warned of squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along and off Odisha coast from June 18-19 when sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during this period.
