Bhubaneswar: American singer Mary Millben on Friday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over US President Donald Trump’s big Russian oil claim.
Addressing the Congress leader in a post on X, Millben, who has often lavished praises on PM Modi while describing him as ‘chosen by God’, said that he was “wrong” and she doesn’t “expect him to understand this type of leadership.”
She also asked him to return to his “I hate India tour”.
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said his Indian counterpart had “assured me today” that it would end Russian oil imports. Following which, Rahul took a sharp dig at PM Modi, claiming he appeared “frightened of US President Donald Trump”. He further criticised Modi for allowing Trump to dictate terms, sending congratulatory messages despite repeated snubs and not contradicting the US President on Operation Sindoor.
Responding to Rahul’s post on X, the US singer said, “You are wrong, @RahulGandhi. PM @narendramodi is not afraid of President Trump. PM Modi understands the long game, and his diplomacy with the US is strategic. Just as @POTUS will always put America’s interests first, so will PM Modi do what is best for India. And I applaud that. That’s what Heads of State do.”
Millben further noted that she did not expect Gandhi to “understand this type of leadership” and reasoned out that he lacked “the acumen to be PM of India”. “Best to return to your ‘I hate India’ tour that has an audience of one – you,” she concluded.
Interestingly, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has refuted Trump’s claim, saying that it is “not aware” of phone call between the leaders over the issue. “I am not aware of any conversation yesterday between the two leaders,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during the weekly press conference.
“India is a significant importer of oil and gas. It has been our consistent priority to safeguard the interests of the Indian consumer in a volatile energy scenario. Our import policies are guided entirely by this objective,” he added.
