Rohit Shetty Announces Biopic On Former Mumbai Top Cop Rakesh Maria
Mumbai: Rohit Shetty will soon be working on a biopic on former Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria.
The filmmaker will be teaming up with Reliance Entertainment to produce the feature film based on the experiences and career of the ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner.
Maria had a distinguished 36-year career during which he cracked the 1993 Bombay serial blasts case and the 2003 twin blasts case of Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar. He also successfully investigated the 26/11 terror attacks, interrogating Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist who was captured alive.
Rohit said he felt honoured to bring the real-life cop’s brave and fearless journey to the screen.
“Rakesh Maria: The man who stared terror in the face for 36 years! His incredible journey spans all the way from the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, the underworld menace, to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Feel truly honoured to be bringing this real-life super cop’s brave & fearless journey to the screen,” Rohit said in a statement.
Rohit also shared the news on social media, which was welcomed by his friends and followers.

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who worked in Rohit’s typically action-packed ‘Simmba’ and also in the upcoming film ‘Cirkus’, called the project “class.”
The cast and title of the film are yet to be finalized. Rohit didn’t even clarify whether he would be directing the movie.
Maria was equally excited.
“It is exciting to re-live the journey, especially when piloted by a brilliant director like Rohit Shetty. More than the nostalgia, it’s also a valuable opportunity to place before the people the extraordinary work of the Mumbai Police when facing tough challenges and working against all odds,” the retired poiliceman said.
