Rourkela Girl Smashes Patriarchy & Records, Now Eyes Guinness Book
Rourkela: Kajal Pandey, a 21-year-old law student from Rourkela, has been smashing patriarchy and records at the same time by entering International Book of Records for the fastest elbow strikes by both hands on a punching bag (women).
Her feat of 291 elbow strikes in one minute has also been certified by six other book of records — King’s book of World Records, Exclusive World Records, Kalam book of World Records, High Range Book of World Records, India Records, International Book of World Records.
And now this gutsy girl has set her eyes on Guinness Book of Records. “On one single day I attempted this for seven different books of world records. The whole process was certified and verified. Now my aim is to get into Guinness Book of Records. The application process for this has already started,” she said.
Kajal is confident that she will enter the Guinness Book of World Records by breaking the current individual record of 242 elbow strikes.
She started training in martial arts at the age of 10. She first learnt karate and then moved on to taekwondo.
Talking about her inspiration, Kajal said the constant bullying she faced in her childhood due to her poor eyesight and being a girl made her resilient to break stereotypes and turn “weakness into strength”.
“Basically I thought of doing this record because I felt that people do not take martial arts as a sport even if a few people know about it they think it more for the boys and less for the girls. My aim is to create the awareness among the people about bringing more girls to sports and to create a sports culture in the country,” she said.
