Bhubaneswar: The night temperature is likely to fall further by 2-3°C in Odisha during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
In the last 24 hours, mercury plummeted to 9.7°C in Rourkela, a drop of 8.3°C in the last two days. The steel city had recorded 11.5°C on Friday and 18°C on Thursday.
The impact of northwesterly dry and cold winds blowing into Odisha was also seen in Jharsuguda, which recorded 11.6°C. The industrial town had seen the mercury drop to 12.2°C on Friday from 18.3°C on Thursday.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also saw a drop in the night temperature in the last two days, from 22.8°C and 20.6°C respectively on Thursday to 20°C and 18.8°C on Friday and 18.5°C and 17.5°C on Saturday.
The weather agency has also warned of dense fog at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajpati, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Koraput and Malkangiri till Sunday morning, and Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Nayagarh and Ganjam during the subsequent 24 hours.
Shallow to moderate fog may also occur during early morning hours of Sunday at a few places in Ganjam, Gajpati, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Koraput and Malkangiri and at one or two places in Angul, Puri, Dhenkanal and Jajpur. There is similar prediction for few places in Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Nayagarh, Ganjam and at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh and Gajapati during early hours on Monday.
Shallow to moderate fog may continue to occur at one or two places in Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati the following morning, it added.
