Surat: A Surat-based RTI activist has sought an inquiry into the financial background of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke’s father, alleging that the income of a retired government employee may not justify the expense of sending his son for higher studies abroad.
Amit Tiwari, the activist, said he has approached the Election Commission of India, Central GST officials and other relevant authorities, asking them to scrutinise the financial affairs of Bhagwanrao Dipke — a retired Maharashtra government employee and the father of Abhijeet Dipke.
In his complaint, Tiwari questionedd how Bhagwanrao Dipke managed to fund his son’s overseas education despite having retired from government service. He asked authorities to examine the family’s financial background and determine whether any irregularities were involved, as reported by Moneycontrol.
ECI Asked To Verify CJP’s Status
Tiwari has also asked the Election Commission to chack whether the Cockroach Janta Party is registered under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
His demand comes in the wake of the announcement of a legal defence fund for CJP protesters arrested during stir the over the alleged NEET paper leak.
If the group is not registered as a political party, Tiwari said authorities should look into whether it can legally operate under that name and accept donations.
GST Query On Defence Fund
In a separate complaint, the activist also asked Central GST authorities to determine whether senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal would be liable to pay 18 per cent GST on the Rs 1 crore contribution he announced for the legal defence fund for CJP protesters.
Sibal had announced the contribution earlier this week to render legal aid to those arrested in connection with protests over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Abhijeet Dipke Falls Ill
Meanwhile, the latest row came amid a health scare involving Abhijeet Dipke at his residence in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
According to PTI, Dipke fell ill after coming downstairs to meet supporters and vomited before going back inside without speaking to the media.
His father said doctors were called at once. Treating physician Dr Vishal Lahane said Dipke’s blood pressure had fallen to 100/60 mmHg and attributed it to stress and anxiety. He was given intravenous fluids and told to take complete rest.
Dr Lahane said Dipke had no fever and should recover with rest, adding that further tests would be carried out if his condition did not improve.
