Mumbai: Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation and his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri have been issued pre-cognisance notices by a Chandigarh district court in connection with a cheating complaint related to an alleged Rs 3 crore jewellery franchise investment.
The court has also issued notices to the directors of Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd, which was associated with the marketing of the Being Human jewellery brand.
The complaint was filed by Chandigarh-based businessman Arun Gupta, who has alleged that he suffered significant financial losses after investing in the franchise opportunity.
The matter is currently at the pre-cognisance stage, and the court is yet to examine the merits of the allegations or decide on taking cognisance of the complaint.
According to a Live Law report, Judicial Magistrate Dr Ambika Sharma issued the notices while hearing Gupta’s complaint.
The court observed, “This court deems it appropriate to issue notice to accused persons as per Proviso to Section 223 BNSS at pre-cognizance stage. Therefore, notice to accused persons be issued for 05.10.2026 on filing of RC/AD.”
As per the complaint, Gupta invested nearly Rs 3 crore after being offered an opportunity to operate a Being Human jewellery showroom.
He alleged that over Rs 1 crore was spent on setting up the outlet and claimed that despite fulfilling the requirements under the agreement, he did not receive the business support allegedly promised to him.
Gupta further alleged that jewellery supplies became irregular after the showroom began operations, affecting sales. He claimed that the supply outlet has remained closed since February 2020, resulting in losses of several crores.
The businessman also raised concerns regarding the showroom’s launch, alleging that he was informed Salman Khan would inaugurate the outlet.
However, the actor did not attend the opening, and his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma was present instead.
Gupta has further alleged that six individuals associated with the company made representations about the franchise opportunity, which influenced his decision to invest.
The court has issued notices under the proviso to Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at the pre-cognisance stage. The matter is scheduled for further proceedings on October 5, 2026.
Since the case remains at an initial stage, the allegations made in the complaint are yet to be examined or adjudicated by the court.
Salman Khan has not publicly responded to the development so far. His sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri and the Being Human Foundation have also not issued any statement regarding the complaint.
