Sameer Wankhede Had Once Stopped Shah Rukh Khan At Mumbai Airport; Know What Happened

Mumbai: Aryan Khan’s arrest isn’t the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal director Sameer Wankhede’s first brush with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

It was more than a decade ago, the officer had stopped Shah Rukh at the Mumbai airport, and made the actor pay customs duty.

Cut to July 2011, Shah Rukh landed with his family following a trip to Holland and London. Wankhede halted SRK and questioned him for allegedly not declaring foreign goods that attracted duty.

At that time, Wankhede was the assistant commissioner of customs posted at the airport. Shah Rukh, carrying at least 20 bags, was interrogated for hours, and Wankhede and his team scanned Khan’s luggage for possible evasion of duty.

The actor’s family was ultimately allowed to leave but not before paying up Rs 1.5 lakh in customs duty.

During his tenure with customs, Wankhede also detained several celebrities — Anushka Sharma and Minissha Lamba and singer Mika Singh — for alleged non-disclosure of goods, mostly jewellery and foreign currency.
