Kolkata: Shoojit Sircar’s much-acclaimed Sardar Udham and Amit V. Masurkar’s Sherni are among 14 films from around the country that have been shortlisted to represent India in Oscars 2022.

Sardar Udham, which released on OTT platform last week, is the story of Sardar Udham Singh who avenged the Jallianwallah Bagh massacre by assassinating Punjab’s then Lt Gov Michael O’Dwyer. Vicky Kaushal has been highly appreciated for essaying the role of Sardar Udham.
Sherni, on the other hand, portrays the life of a forest officer – enacted by Vidya Balan — who is tasked with catching a man-eating tigress in a village. The critically acclaimed film has dealt with man-animal conflict and corruption.
The 94th Academy Award ceremony will be held in March 2022 in Los Angeles.
Last year, India’s official entry at the Oscars was Malayalam film Jalikattu which failed to make it to the Best International Feature Film shortlist. Short film Bittu, on the other hand, had been nominated in the Best Live Action Short category at the Oscars.
