Savitri Amabasya Observed With Traditional Fervour In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Sabitri Amabasya Brata was observed with traditional fervour across Odisha on Tuesday.

Looking resplendent in new sarees, married women in large numbers thronged various temples of Lord Shiva and Parbati, including Lingaraj, Chintamaniswar, Bhaskareswar, Megheswar to Brahmeswar in Odisha capital, since early morning to perform special puja for their husband’s  long life.

Other prominent temples like Chandi Mandir in Cuttack and Jagannath temple in Puri, where special rituals were performed, also witnessed long queues.

People of the third sex also celebrated the ‘Savitri Brata’ by arranging special puja at PalaspalliVani Vihar kinnar basti and Bharatpur kinnar basti in the state capital. Wearing new sarees and other ornaments, transgenders observed fast during.

“Savitri, a princess, who so pious and virtuous that she could win back her dead husband Satyaban from god of death Yamraj through sheer devotion and determination. Hence, ‘Sabitri Brata’ is considered as an auspicious occasion for all Hindu married women and it is believed that observing the day with devotion prolongs the life of a woman’s better half,” said Geeta, a homemaker.
