Bhubaneswar: In view of the heavy rain triggered by deep depression, closure of educational institutions in several districts of Odisha, including Kalahandi, Gajapati and Nabarangpur, has been extended till Friday.
As per the orders issued by the respective District Collectors, all schools and Anganwadi centres in these three districts will remain closed on Friday as well. The decision applies to all government and private schools.
The authorities said the decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety and security of students as heavy to very heavy rain continues to lash south and western Odisha.
Earlier, holidays had been declared till Thursday in these districts. However, as the rain situation is yet to improve and waterlogging, overflowing drains and disruption in road connectivity have been reported from several low-lying areas, the closure has been extended by another day.
Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alerts for Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and other south Odisha districts.
