Bhubaneswar: As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of Odisha experienced an unbearably hot day.
The intense heatwave pushed the maximum temperature past the 40-degree Celsius mark at 14 places across the state, with as many as 5 of those recording temperatures of 42 degree and beyond.
As per data provided by IMD’s regional centre here, Jharsuguda in western Odisha recorded the day’s highest temperature of 43.3 degree in the state, followed by Titilagarh at 43 degree, Sonepur at 42.3 degree, Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur at 42 degree.
The maximum temperature was 41.5 degree at Sundargarh, Balangir and Rourkela; 41.1 degree at Angul; 41 degree at Hirakud and Nuapada.
Talcher, Phulbani and Boudh recorded maximum temperature between 40 degree and 41 degree.
Bhubaneswar was relatively more ‘comfortable’, with a maximum temperature of 36.6 degree, while the mercury recorded 35.8 degree in Cuttack.
Several districts in Odisha including Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada and Kalahandi are likely to face severe heatwave conditions between April 21 and 24,according to IMD.
Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail across Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur till April 24.
Districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur may see light to moderate rain or thunderstorm till April 26.
