Jhargram (West Bengal): It was another hectic day in election season for Narendra Modi.

In between addressing back-to-back campaign rallies in Purulia, Jhargram, Medinipur and Bishnupur on a scorching Sunday in West Bengal, the Prime Minister took a short break to have ‘jhalmuri’, a puffed rice mixture prepared with onions, chillies, mustard oil, coconut pieces, and popular local savouries like chanachur.

Dressed in white kurta, dark blue pinstriped waistcoat and a red scarf bearing the BJP’s lotus symbol, the Prime Minister Modi stopped at a snack shop in Jhargram and tried ‘jhalmuri’ as local people, mostly women, gathered there and tried to capture the moment in their phones.

“In between four rallies across West Bengal on a packed Sunday, had some delicious Jhalmuri in Jhargram,” the PM wrote on X. He shared pictures and a video also.

In the video clip, Modi is seen approaching the shop and asking the shopkeeper to make some ‘jhalmuri’ for him. He asks the price, and as he offers to pay, the shopkeeper initially declines to take the money. But PM Modi insists, then he accepts the money.

The Prime Minister himself had the puffed rice mixture, and also shared it with women and children around him.

It was a refreshing break from the rallies, where he sharpened the attack on ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is seeking a fourth straight term.

Modi reiterated his ‘Maha jungle raj’ charge against TMC for fostering corruption in the state.

He issued a “last chance” warning to “goons and syndicates” to surrender ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, scheduled in two phases – April 23 and 29.

Modi also targeted the TMC over women’s reservation, alleging the party opposed measures that would enable women to benefit from quotas from 2029.

PM Modi claimed women in Bengal had been denied rights, security and economic opportunities under the current regime, asserting that empowering women remains central to the BJP’s agenda.
