Jammu: A search operation aimed at locating suspected terrorists believed to be sheltering in the dense woods of Rajouri district entered its third consecutive day on Monday, officials said. The Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched the mission on Saturday after receiving specific intelligence about possible militant movement in the sector, PTI reported.
The operation, named ‘Operation Sheruwali’, sparked a clash on Saturday when security forces made contact with the suspects in the Dorimal–Gambhir Moghla belt. The Army’s White Knight Corps posted on X that contact with terrorists was established at about 11:30 am on Saturday in the general Gambhir Moghla area during an intelligence-based joint operation conducted with police and the CRPF.
Officials said the search is continuing under a tight cordon. “The operation to track down suspected terrorists is going on amid a strong cordon. Surveillance has also been put in place,” they added, noting that teams have widened their sweep into neighbouring forest tracts.
Officials said joint teams, using drones and sniffer dogs, have widened searches into neighbouring areas and strengthened the cordon with additional troops to track down the suspects believed to be hiding in the terrain.
After troops made contact, there was a brief exchange of fire, following which security teams continued intensive combing of the forested zones. Officials said initial reports pointed to the movement of two to three suspected terrorists in the area.
