Senior Woman Official Of IIFL Questioned In Cuttack Multicrore Gold Heist

Cuttack: A senior woman official at the India Infoland Ltd (IIFL) at Nayasarak here had hatched the plot for the loot along with prime accused Lala Amrit Ray, a senior police officer informed on Wednesday.

She is currently being questioned. Other staffers are also under the scanner to ascertain the amount of the misappropriated gold and cash.

On Tuesday, the Commissionerate Police had informed about having cracked the November 19 multicore gold heist and detained seven persons in this connection. Lala Amrit Ray, an employee of the private finance company, was said to be the mastermind.

Police had also seized 2 kg gold and bikes used in the crime from the other accused, identified as Lala’s brother Lala Ranjan Ray, friend Ranjan Behera, Rajkishore Sahu, Pradipta Behera, Prakash Sahu and Santosh Bhoi.

A day before the incident, the accused had conducted a recce and prepared an escape route map. The well-planned loot was executed in 10 minutes and what made things easier for them was lack of adequate security measures at the company.

Meanwhile, police took the accused to a canal near Markat Nagar, where they had reportedly hidden the looted gold, among other places.

According to police, the looters had mortgaged a substantial quantity of the gold ornaments with another finance company where Amrit’s brother Ranjan is employed and hid the rest.

According to the initial estimate, gold ornaments worth Rs 10 crore and Rs 4.30 lakh cash were looted at gun-point from the Nayasark branch office. In its police complaint, the company, however, later claimed that gold ornaments worth Rs 20 crore were looted in the heist.
