Bhubaneswar: Severe thunderstorm is likely to hit at least six districts of Odisha on Saturday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a nowcast warning.
In a message issued at 5 pm, the weather agency said that districts like Balangir, Bargarh, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Sonepur are likely to be affected by thunderstorm within the next three hours.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching 40- 50 kmph is likely to occur at most places over these districts. An orange warning was issued for these six districts during the period.
Under its impact minor damage to loose / unsecured structures, minor damage to banana trees and standing crops may occur. People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
