Sex Racket In Divyang Training Centre In Odisha Capital: Five More Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Airfield Police on Sunday arrested five more persons in connection with the sex racket in the All Odisha Orthopedically Handicapped Welfare Association centre in Palaspalli area of the city.

Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash said among the five arrested persons included Sangram Das, a clerk of the District Social Welfare Office (DSSO) in Khurda, two employees of the training centre, a broker of Bhubaneswar and a woman of Cuttack.

Dash said the police, who had arrested general secretary of the training centre Suresh Chandra Behera on Saturday, will take him on remand for further interrogation. The five others arrested on the day will be forwarded to the court on Monday and police will take them on remand later.

Stating that the police will examine the CCTV footage of the training centre to identify the visitors, he said the investigation will focus on the modus operandi of the sex racket and involvement of other persons.

Prior to the arrest of six persons, police had arrested lady trainer of the centre Madhu Manjari Dhal on February 1. With this, the total number of arrest in this case has gone up to seven.

As per the complaint filed by a divyang woman trainee of the centre at Airfield police station on January 31, Dhal used to offer Rs 5,000 to the inmates of the centre to indulge in sexual activities.

The incident came to light after a former woman employee of the centre posted the video on social media.

Talking to media, she had accused the general secretary of the association of running the sex racket. Several government officials used to visit the centre for sexual gratification, she added.

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports on the shocking incident, the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities had begun an investigation on January 25.
