Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday suspended three leaders, including firebrand women’s affairs general secretary Shreemayee Mishra, for alleged involvement in ‘anti-party activities.
An office order signed by Pratap Jena, vice-president, headquarters, of the BJD said the three leaders are suspended from the party for their involvement in anti-party activities with immediate effect.
Apart from Shreemayee Mishra, ex-block president of Kaptipada Subas Chandra Sai and ex-district secretary of Mayurbhanj Pravir Chandra Sai have also been suspended by the regional party.
Shreemayee, a long-time BJD loyalist who rose through the ranks to become general secretary for women’s affairs, had triggered a political row following her social media posts recently. Though she did not name anyone in her posts, her stinging remarks had reportedly drawn sharp reactions from many within the regional party.
The action against Shreemayee comes close on the heels of the suspension of veteran leader and former Minister Prafulla Mallik by the BJD.
