‘Sitrang’ To Make Landfall As Severe Cyclonic Storm; Check Track & Wind Warning For Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The post-monsoon cyclonic storm ‘Sitrang’ is likely to trigger heavy rain and high-velocity wind along Odisha coast.

According to the forecast track of the system released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is likely to make landfall as a severe cyclonic storm and attain a maximum sustained surface wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph on October 25.

Under the influence of the system, squally wind with speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely on October 23, 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on October 24 and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on October 25 along and off Odisha coast.

DAY-WISE WIND WARNING

October 22: Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely over eastcentral & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal

October 23: Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is very likely over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral and southeast Bay of Bengal

October 24: Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely over westcentral and adjoining areas of eastcentral and north Bay of Bengal

October 25: Gale wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is likely over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal

October 26: Gale wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is likely over north Bay of Bengal in the morning and dropping to 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph by afternoon.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal from October 22 and along and off Odisha coast and westcentral and North Bay of Bengal from October 23 to 26.

“Yesterday’s low-pressure area over north Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of south Andaman Sea & Southeast Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region this morning. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on October 22 and then moving northwestwards intensify further into a deep depression over eastcentral and adjoining southeast bay of Bengal on October 23,” the IMD said in its bulletin.

“Subsequently, it is very likely to recurve gradually northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal by October 24. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northeastwards and reach near West Bengal – Bangladesh coasts on October 23, skirting Odisha coast,” the bulletin added.

Heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Cuttack and Khurda districts from Monday onwards. Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 24.
