Baridpad: Mayurbhanj police have arrested six persons in connection with the June 22 firing incident along National Highway-18 in Odisha.
“Under the guidance of DGP Y B Khurania,and direct supervision of DIG (Eastern Range) Satyajit Nayak, the police team, led by Mayurbhanj SP Varun Guntupalli, conducted a thorough investigation, utilising technical analysis of CCTV footage and forensic evidence. This led to the recovery of a weapon and identification of the culprits,” a police release said on Friday.
A 30-year-old liquor shop employee, Sibananda Barik, was critically injured after being shot multiple times by five to six armed assailants during a failed robbery attempt near Jagannathpur on NH-18 under Kuliana police limits in Mayurbhanj district. He sustained bullet injuries in head and thigh and was admitted to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada. The incident took place when he was riding a motorcycle to Baripada carrying Rs 8 lakh in cash.
On June 24, a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) delegation, led by District President Sudam Marndi, had submitted a memorandum to the Mayurbhanj SP, demanding swift and stern action against the criminals.
