Six Injured As Speeding Car Hits 2 Two-Wheeler, Rams Into Cleaning Staff In Puri Town
Puri: Six persons were injured in a series accident caused by a speeding car in Odisha’s Puri town late on Tuesday.
The injured includes a few devotees and cleaning staff of Puri municipality. They have been admitted to district headquarters hospital.
According to sources, the car first hit a motorcyclist near Puri beach road. As the person behind the wheels, identified as Umesh Bhattacharya, was speeding away to escape being caught after the accident, he hit another two-wheeler near Balagandhi Square, injuring two. He then raced towards ‘Bada Danda’ (Grand Road) and hit three cleaning staff.
Following the accident, the cleaning staff staged a protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the car driver for rash and negligent driving. Meanwhile, locals attempted to stop the car as the driver was trying to escape through National Highway. It finally came to a halt after hitting a stop board at Bira Prasadpur on the national highway. The driver was then brutally thrashed by the locals, who congregated there. He was later rescued by the police and admitted to the hospital.
