New Delhi: The Government of India (GoI) has claimed that an ‘X’ post doing the rounds on social media about two Indian posts along the Line of Control (LOC) allegedly being destroyed by Pakistan is fake.
The post, from the handle ‘South Asian Perspective’ claims: “Just In: Pakistan Army destroyed two posts of Indian Army using mortars and gunfire along the LOC inflecting heavy casualties.”
The post also has a video showing a massive fire. GoI’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has carried a fact check on the post and released a statement.
“In a post, it is falsely claimed that the Pakistan Army has destroyed two Indian Army posts ….. This video is old and NOT from India. The video is from sectarian clashes that took place in the year 2024, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The photo shared is from a fire in Northern Ireland in March 2025,” the PIB Fact Check Team has posted.
It has asked Indian netizens to refrain from sharing unverified information, and reply only on official Government India sources for authentic information.
According to a senior Army officer, Pakistan is not new to this game of bluffing. “During the 1971 War, even as Pakistan was losing, Radio Pakistan would broadcast news of hundreds of Indian fighter aircraft and tanks that their troops have destroyed. The numbers mentioned were more than 10 times of the number of assets actually used by India in the War. Finally, All India Radio had to run a show named ‘Radio Jhootistan’ to call the Pakistani’s bluff,” he said.
“The Pakistanis shamelessly spread misinformation during the Kargil War as well, even when they were being thrashed black and blue. Now, with so many social media channels, things have got easier for them. Indians should remember that every death or injury in our armed forces is dillgently recorded and duly published. We are not like Pakistan, which didn’t even take back the bodies of their soldiers for a proper burial after the Kargil War. It was left to our soldiers to give them a decent burial,” he added.
