Mumbai: Amid the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, actress Sonakshi Sinha slammed news channels for sensationalising the conflict and creating panic among people who are already stressed.
Taking to her Instagram handle on Friday, Sonakshi called the mainstream news channels a ‘joke’, and urged them to show facts instead of a theatrical coverage of the ongoing military operations.
“Our news channels are a joke! I’m so done with these over-dramatised visuals and sound effects, the screaming and shouting! What are you’ll doing? Just do your job, report facts as they are,” Sonakshi wrote.
She continued, “Stop sensationalising WAR and creating panic in people who are anyway anxious, for God’s sake. People, just find a reliable news source and stick to that… stop watching this garbage in the name of news.”
Sonakshi’s scathing post came just hours after the Ministry of Defence issued a formal advisory to media outlets and digital platforms, directing them to refrain from airing live coverage of military operations.
Citing references from past incidents, such as the Kargil War, 26/11 Mumbai attacks and Kandahar hijacking, the ministry pointed out that irresponsible reporting can pose a threat to national security.
On May 8, Pakistan targeted several border cities in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat with a series of drones and missiles.
These strikes were made in response to Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out on May 7.
