Sonali Sahoo Joins Congress After Quitting BJP Ahead Of Elections In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Prominent woman leader Sonali Sahoo, who was Odisha BJP spokesperson, joined Congress on Thursday shortly after resigning from the saffron party ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

Sonali joined the grand old party at its state headquarters in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak and other senior leaders.

Sonali said she decided to quit BJP and join Congress after being inspired by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and the party’s progressive ideas and policies.

She has earlier tendered her resignation from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) claiming that the saffron party has failed to work sincerely for the empowerment of women.

She has sent her resignation letter state BJP president Manmohan Samal claiming that the party has little respect towards women.

“During the last five years, I came to realise that BJP is not pro-women. The party lacks respect towards women as well. Being a woman, I have decided to move ahead and become the voice of the women of the state. I will always serve the people of Odisha,” she alleged.

Notably, Sonali had joined the saffron party in 2019 after quitting the Congress.
