Southwest Monsoon To Make Onset Over Odisha In 48 Hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is now expected to make an onset over Odisha during the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.

“Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of north Arabian sea, some more parts of Gujarat state, some parts of south Madhya Pradesh, entire Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, some parts Vidarbha and Telangana, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral & northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, entire Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar during next 48 hours,” the morning bulletin said.

MD senior scientist RK Jenamani said that monsoon usually arrives in Odisha around June 17 every year. “A few places in the state received pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday. Conditions are favourable for monsoon arrival in the next 48 hours,” he added.

The MeT office had earlier forecast a gradual increase in overall rainfall activity over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds during the next five days.

The regional centre, on the other hand, has issued yellow warning for thunderstorm and lighting for several parts of Odisha till 8.30 am on June 19.
