Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) has fixed the speed limit of the vehicles on national highways (NHs) and state highways (SHs) in Odisha.
As per a notification of the STA, non-transport (private) passenger vehicles with not more than 8 seats including the driver can travel at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour (kmph) on NH and SH having 4 lanes and above with divided carriageway, 50 kmph on NH and SH passing through municipal and NAC areas and 60 kmph on other NHs and SHs.
For the transport (commercial) passenger vehicles with not more than 8 seats including the driver can travel, the maximum speed limit is 80 kmph on NH and SH having 4 lanes and above with divided carriageway, 50 kmph on NH and SH passing through municipal and NAC areas and 60 kmph on other NHs and SHs.
For the transport and non-transport passenger vehicles with 9 or more seats including the driver can travel, the maximum speed limit is 80 kmph on NH and SH having 4 lanes and above with divided carriageway, 40 kmph on NH and SH passing through municipal and NAC areas and 60 kmph on other NHs and SHs.
The STA has fixed the maximum speed limit for the goods vehicles at 60 kmph on NH and SH having 4 lanes and above with divided carriageway, 30 kmph on NH and SH passing through municipal and NAC areas and 50 kmph on other NHs and SHs.
Similarly, the motorcycles can not go beyond the speed of 60 kmph on NH and SH having 4 lanes and above with divided carriageway, 40 kmph on NH and SH passing through municipal and NAC areas and 50 kmph on other NHs and SHs.
For the three-wheeler vehicles, the speed limit has been set at not more than 40 kmph on NH and SH having 4 lanes and above with divided carriageway, 30 kmph on NH and SH passing through municipal and NAC areas and 30 kmph on other NHs and SHs, the STA notification said.
