Star Campaigner Issue: Kamal Nath Moves SC Against Election Commission’s Order
Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Saturday moved the Supreme Court, challenging Election Commission of India’s (ECI) order revoking his ‘star campaigner’ status for the upcoming bypolls in the state.
According to senior lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha, Nath has challenged the ECI’s decision on several grounds and sought an urgent hearing on the plea, PTI reported.
“Which post or position this star campaigner has? The EC had not given me any notice, nor had it asked me about it. Why they are doing this in the last two days of campaigning only they know,” Nath questioned ECI’s action.
The ECI cited repeated violations of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by Nath and revoked his ‘star campaigner’ status on Friday.
Bypolls will be held in 28 Madhya Pradesh Assembly seats on November 3.
