Keonjhar: A student was found dead in the hostel of a private residential college in Odisha’s Keonjhar town in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jaladhara Mahanta, son of Jagabandhu Mahanta of Tangarapada village under Patna police limits in the district. He was pursuing a summer course at the college and staying in the hostel.
Sources said Jaladhara had dinner with his friends around 10 pm on Monday and went to sleep. Shortly after 1 am, his hostel mates tried to wake him up but found no response. The college authorities were immediately informed and he was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared him dead.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, family members of the deceased have demanded a thorough probe into the incident.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. The body of the student was sent for postmortem.
